Learning objectives for the project are as follows:
Understand Health & Safety rules in the workshop & how to conduct a Risk Assessment
Recognise different types of wood and understand their properties
Use research to analyse and learn from existing products
Develop isometric drawing and rendering skills
Understand client needs and how to write a design specification
Construct a functional pencil holder developing workshop skills
cutting, filing, shaping and wood staining
Identify the use of different tools and equipment
Understand how to write a project evaluation
Lesson plan overview:
Lesson 1: Health and Safety in the workshop and Wood Theory
Lesson 2: Product Safety and Product Analysis
Lesson 3: Isometric Drawing
Lesson 4: Design Specification and Design Drawing
Lesson 5: Tools and Equipment

Some differentiation provided on resources in the form of sentence starters, key words and sentence structures.
(I use these resources with my year 6-8 classes during woodwork projects.)
Sample Risk Assessment for DT Project 2
Sample risk assessment for an acrylic based DT project using the laser cutter. Hazards considered include the workshop environment, working with sharp tools during model making, use of the laser cutter and working with glue adhesive.
Sample Risk Assessment for DT Project
Example risk assessment for a wood based DT project including hazards such as environment, tools and equipment like disk sander, hand drills, saws and wood stains.
